Dr. Jacques F. Pierre
Postdoctoral Fellow
Dr. Jacques F. Pierre joined IFDC in April 2022 as a Consultant. He transitioned to Research Associate in January 2023, and later that year, he became a Postdoctoral Fellow. Since then, Dr. Pierre has helped advance sustainable agricultural practices for smallholder farmers. His research utilizes decision support tools to optimize soil fertility and promote the socio-economic benefits of various cropping systems through the SOILS-Space to Place program.
Dr. Pierre has contributed to crop modeling tools, such as the Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT). His work focuses on enhancing nutrient use efficiency, soil health, and the economic viability of small-scale farming systems. He collaborates with scientists, engineers, and farmers to develop innovative solutions for smallholder farmers across broad agricultural landscapes.
Prior to joining IFDC, Dr. Pierre served as a Research Scholar at the University of Kentucky and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, conducting extensive research on soil fertility and cropping systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Sustainable Tropical Agriculture Science from the National Technology Institute of Mexico, an M.S. in Education from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, and a B.S. in Agronomic Engineering from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications and serves as a reviewer for academic journals.
